Listen very carefully...............

*MAXTRANSFER HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SPEED.*

It is simply the size of the largest block transfer the drive
is capable of, at any one transfer.

It is a "drive adjustment" not a "system adjustment"

IDE drives on Amiga's should always be set to: 0x1fe00
as some drives have trouble with larger transfers due to
a bug in some drives (internal) software.
(Large files become corrupted)

All SCSI's can be set to: 0xffffff (zero-x-6 f's)
SCSI drives configured in 32 bit space can be
nearly anything, use the HDToolbox default value.

Either way, it makes no relevant difference to speed,
if you want it to go faster, use a FFS blocksize of 1024
use more buffers & get a modern (fast) drive...

But don't hold your breath, you MIGHT get 4Mb / sec
on a good day.... The IDE bus was an after thought....
Sorry.................
